We are pleased to share our 2023 Annual Review, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and improvements of the ITSCI Programme. The review also includes an overview of the second successful independent Alignment Assessment of ITSCI using OECD methodology.

Key achievements

Programme Expansion

  • Pursuing the vision of enhancing local ownership, activities of the ITSCI Programme in the Great Lakes Region started to be managed by the non-profit organisation Kumbuka Afrika.
  • In October 2023, we were delighted to extend activities in Tshopo Province, marking the programme’s presence in an 8th province within the DRC.
  • In 2023, 58 mines were added to the programme across the Great Lakes Region, taking the number of ITSCI monitored mines to 2,740.

Compliance

  • A second independent Alignment Assessment (AA) concluded ITSCI is Fully Aligned with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from CAHRA. Building on the positive results from its first independent OECD AA in 2018, ITSCI worked on and achieved important enhancements in the programme’s activities and implementation. These are reflected in the strong results of this second assessment.
  • The report provides an overview of key improvements in the past five years.

Local impact

  • 1,763 incidents were recorded, including 55 via whistleblowing
  • 2,017 radio spots promoted ITSCI’s whistleblowing programme broadcasted on 29 community radios
  •  ITSCI held 988 training sessions with 16,432 beneficiaries
